Using a fishbone diagram for root cause analysis
Using a fishbone diagram, you can structure potential causes of a problem, brainstormed by a group, into related causes to help make sense of what the root causes may be. Combining this with cause screen provides a really intuitive way to figure out what you can improve to make the most impact with the least effort.
Early in the Library Reading List project, brainstorming with mix of academics and Library staff, explored the potential causes of the module coordinators not engaging with the Library not in providing module reading lists. You can download a step-by-step guide to how they used the fishbone diagram and cause screening here.
