John O’Sullivan, Programme Management Office, Trinity College Dublin

We are very excited to be supporting the launch of the new Project Management Community of Practice.  You may remember that CoPs are about building and sharing knowledge, building and sharing skills, building networks and building recognition.  The launch will give us a flavour of all four ingredients.  Iseult O’Siochain from UCD Registry is opening this segment of the event, welcoming John O’Sullivan, our guest speaker from Trinity College Dublin, who brings both his recent TCD experience and 30 years industry experience.  John runs the Programme Management Office (programme = lots of projects) in Trinity and had a number of project management related roles in over 20 years in Siemens.  Marian O’Connor will close this segment by talking about the new Project Management CoP itself, followed by a Q&A.

Samantha Fahy, Sustainability Manager, Dublin City University

The segment on Lean Green is being hosted by UCD Agile and in it we are looking at the enormous, sometimes overwhelming, areas of sustainability and the green agenda. The timing of this event chimes in with what we have seen of the soon to be finalised UCD Strategy 2020-2025.  Many of us ask the question “What can I do, what should we be doing?”  Lean Green takes the idea that the Lean methodology that UCD Agile supports is a really practical way of getting stuck into dealing with practical questions.  Our guest speaker, Samantha Fahy, Director of Sustainability in DCU since 2013, will give us some of DCU’s experience in tackling the ‘what can we do?’ institutional question, not just practical projects but also the institutional questions it raises. From the UCD perspective, our colleagues in UCD Estates Services are going to talk about some sustainability work already happening here, again taking a ‘what can I do?’ angle on the challenges both at the practical level as well as institutionally.  Agile’s contribution highlights the overlaps between Lean and Green and to offer open arms to anyone who wishes to work with Agile on the ‘what can I do?’ green questions they have in mind.
