WST Summer School 2019 event lineup announced!

The UCD WST Summer School is taking place on 16th, 17th and 18th July 2019.

We are delighted to announce the lineup for the Work Smarter Together Summer School 2019. This year you can choose from Lean training courses, workshops and Community of Practice events delivered by the UCD Agile team, UCD Communities of Practice and our training partners, SQT.

Day 1: Tuesday 16th July 2019

Session 1: Yellow Belt 

This training provides participants with a good understanding of the concepts and key tools of Lean and includes a hands on lean process simulation exercise. On completion trainees will be ready to use Lean to improve work proceses.

Session 2: Chromatography CoP 

This is the launch event of the new Chromatography Community of Practice. The morning will consist of a meet-and-great, presentations for users of all levels followed by networking. So whether you are an experienced chromatographer or someone who is interested in getting started, we will have something for everyone.

Day 2: Wednesday 17th July 2019

Session 3: Fundamentals of Lean for UCD

The Fundamentals of Lean for UCD training is an introduction to how Lean is used for continuous improvement in UCD. Participants are provided with an overview of the Lean approach to process improvement and are exposed to continuous improvement tools/techniques through hands on exercises using real UCD processes.

Session 4: UniShare Users Coffee Morning

The UniShare Users Coffee Morning is about bringing the people who use UniShare together so that the community can be enriched. We hope to do this by inviting the new and long-standing users of UniShare to discuss the system and its uses and the opportunities it provides. It’s a space to ask questions and generate ideas over a cup of tea or coffee.

Anyone who uses UniShare as part of their day to day work is invited to take part in this two hour session, where the tea, coffee and conversations will flow!

Session 5: Mass Spectrometry CoP

Following the successful launch of the MS CoP back in March, we are delighted to be able to invite you to this follow-up meeting. This morning, we will have presentations on various aspects of mass spectrometry followed by networking. We invite everyone interested in mass spectrometry to come along, meet existing users or simply learn more about the mass spec community on campus.

Session 6: First steps after Lean training (even if it was quite some time ago…)

Have you previously done the White Belt or Yellow Belt training and don’t know what to do next? If you answered ‘yes’, then this workshop is for you. In this interactive session you will receive a brief Lean refresher and practical guidance on how you can start to use Lean to make it easier to be successful in your work.

Day 3: Thursday 18th July 2019

Session 7: How do you start a process improvement project? 

Have you got a list of problems you want to solve but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you already have an idea for a process improvement project and need help scoping it before you begin. This practical workshop will take you on a journey from pain point to project charter… setting you up for success on your process improvement journey.

Session 8: Lunch ‘n’ Learn

Following on from the success of the Lunch and Learn at last years WST Summer School we have decided to bring the Potato Heads back! Whether you have been to a previous Lunch and Learn and want more, or you are intrigued by what we are doing with Potato Heads, we look forward to seeing you at this fun and interactive session. As the name implies, lunch will be provided and we will endeavor to ensure you have learned something before we are done.
