New training offerings

Our Spring training programme is up and running.  We’re developing new Distributed Office sessions and will have more news on these shortly – keep an eye on this page for updates.  In the meantime, here’s an update on what is currently available.

UCD staff can book a place on any of the upcoming events through the booking centre in InfoHub.

Distributed Office sessions

We are running a new round of Distributed Office (DO) training on 27th and 28th April:

Tuesday 27th April at 10.00am: DO Streamlining Meetings

Meetings are a great and necessary part of office life but how often to you think ‘great, another meeting’? How often have you had ‘if only…’ thoughts about a meeting. “How do we help meetings work for us?” This session will help to identify concrete things you can do, and the motivation to act on some quick resolutions.

Wednesday 28th April at 2.30-3.30pm: DO: Keeping teams connected using Google Currents

This workshop looks to the way we work together, as a team, on a day-to-day basis, addressing the question of “How can I keep my team connected and informed while working remotely?” using Google Currents. Through this workshop you can discover virtual alternatives to ‘bumping into’ your colleagues in the corridor, or by the water-cooler!  Currents will not only connect you with your own team but will also provide a channel of information from within the wider UCD Google Currents community.

Our new sessions currently in development are based on feedback you’ve given us in our recent survey on DO sessions. More news on these shortly.

Lean Training

The Lean methodology is a practical approach to improving processes, reducing waste and boosting customer satisfaction.  We’ve added two offerings in the Lean category in May:

1. Yellow Belt training: Tuesday 4th and Thursday 6th May

If you are looking for an in-depth exploration of Lean Six Sigma and want to improve your processes, Yellow Belt will provide you with a good understanding of the concepts and key tools of Lean Six Sigma.

The course  consists of 2 x 2-3 hour virtual sessions – you must attend both sessions to complete the training. There is also a short Programme Introduction session which is held one week before the training.

  • Programme Introduction: Monday 26th April – 10.00-10.30am. This involves a short pre-read & short questions for learners to answer in advance of the course.
  • Yellow Belt Day 1 – Tuesday 4th May – 10.00-12.30 – 2.5 hours VC via Zoom

Individual work to be completed by learners

  • Yellow Belt Day 2 – Thursday 6th May – 09.30-12.30 including pre-course group work in breakout groups
2. Lean Practitioner: Wednesday 19th May from 2.00pm-4.00pm.

For Yellow Belts who have completed their training and now want to obtain UCD Lean Practitioner Certification, you can sign up for our Lean Practitioner workshop on 19th May – contact agile@ucd.ie if you are interested and have or intend to deliver a Lean process improvement.  This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate and be recognised for your Lean skills.

Check the booking centre in InfoHub  to book a place.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Agile team at agile@ucd.ie with any questions.
